I had an idea, of which I had shared with Anisky. He believed it had potential if some were to work on it.
My idea was to create a system where you could purchase some generic NPC clones to help you in combat in exchange for credits. (Merc System)
Having multiple types of clones, (High Defense/Tank, Sniper/Best Aim, Generic/All-around-shooter, etc.) you could purchase some to help during combat. Having a diverse team can help you destroy many droids with minimal wounds. Each trooper (player) can hire up to 3 Generics to help them creating a squad of 4. Multiple squads can easily storm an enemy creating a small combat force of 8-20 clones. (Most being NPCs).
Other troopers, being (supposedly) equal to you, they would cost a lot of credits. Because they have the same stats as you could have, they would be valuable, and not be abused as a game where you send your henchmen to do all the work and wait. They, along with you, will level up together, and continue whatever. They would continue on their skill-branch (such as snipers upgrading their aim) and work with you until you fire them, or they perish in combat.
Obviously, having no level cap would result in overpowered newbies. I believe the clones should be at least 3/4 of your level in order to keep it fair, though they can level up. More credits for higher level clones, (obviously) and you can equip them with your armor, but when dead, you WILL lose your equipment. They would have to be healed, etc. because they are supposedly like you.
Since I'm not a developer, I wouldn't know about the costs, but they should be costly. I think a system like this for droids could work well too, (seeker droids etc.) but they would be less expensive and weaker.
